Job Description:

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Assists in setting up stocking  and organizing kitchen

  • Thaws, cuts and prepares food items.  Portions food items and stores them in proper containers.

  • Uses knives, measuring ladles, scoops, scales, can opener, kitchen scissors or other kitchen equipment including, warmer, slicer, mixer, tilt skillet, and other tools or utensils.

  • Maintains proper food storage temperatures and rotation.

  • Prepares broiled, baked, grilled, steamed, sautéed and blended items using recipes. Uses sauté pans, stock pots, grill, stove and ovens.

  • Performs or supervises all duties in all areas of the kitchen.

  • Cleans and sanitizes work station during the day and at the end of the day.

  • Understands safety practices and correctly sets up, operates, breaks down and cleans all equipment.

  • Handles all food and equipment and maintains cleanliness of kitchen following Health Department guidelines and standards.

  • Reports immediately when accidents or incidents occur to Director of Food Services.  Completes accident/incident report.

  • Performs additional duties including cleaning ovens, tilt skillet, slicer, mixer, hoods, filters and other line equipment, washing floors, organizing and cleaning storerooms, and food production areas. Uses cleaning compounds.

  • Assist in maintaining inventory, maintaining inventory to ensure appropriate ordering.

  • Assists in maintaining records to be kept in the kitchen, training of clients and volunteers.

  • Cooks according to the menu and maintains recipes for food cooked.

  • Supervises food service staff following CACFP Guidelines and correctly serving food and portioning.

  • Follows YWCA policies and procedures.   This would also entail correcting clients who do not follow procedures and requesting restrictions if necessary.

  • Run the cash register, EBT machine and helps maintain the records to run the cafeteria efficiently. 

  • Oversees operations when Director of Food Services is not available, works weekends and some holidays

Experience and Skills:

Education and Experience

  • High school certificate of completion, diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • Culinary degree and 5 years of food service experience preferred. 

  • Must complete universal precautions, CPR, and First Aid within 3 months of employment.

Knowledge and Ability

    • Can identify food items, produce, meats, cheeses, sauces, and prepared food. 

    • Has knowledge of cooking times for all items to ensure correct doneness. 

    • Is a good team player, works well with others and exercises good judgment when dealing with client situations and complaints.

    • Must be reliable and dependable.

Physical Demands of Position

  • Performs duties that require bending, lifting, reaching and turning. Be able to handle food items in containers (weighing up to 50 lbs.) to and from walk-ins and dry storage areas.  Is able to stand up to 8 hours or longer

Hours are 8:00am to 6:00pm.
